US President Donald Trump and Iran have agreed on an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East region, said Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The agreement also covers Lebanon and has the potential to partially open the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. pravda.sk ↗
Trump agreed to a twenty-day ceasefire on condition that the Strait of Hormuz, one of the busiest sea routes in the world, be opened. Iran submitted a ten-point plan that serves as the basis for further negotiations. According to available information, peace negotiations should begin on Friday. ta3.com ↗
The agreement was reached after Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif urgently called on Trump to extend the ultimatum he had given Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz. The ultimatum was originally set to expire on Wednesday morning. The Pakistani prime minister proposed a twenty-day ceasefire as a compromise solution that would allow both sides to continue peace talks without immediate escalation of tensions. hnonline.sk ↗
The opening of the Strait of Hormuz is crucial for the global economy, since approximately a third of the world's seaborne traded oil passes through it. The agreement reached therefore represents significant progress in efforts to de-escalate the conflict in the Middle East and could affect energy markets and international security relations. denik.cz ↗
